Blackpool airport began
operations in 1909 supporting flying schools. By World War II the airport
housed a aircraft production base for Vickers who produced Bombers for the War
effort. In 1949 the airport was handed over to the Ministry of Aviation who
renamed the airport to Blackpool airport from the old name Squires Gate
airfield. Since then the airport has continued to expand and now has flights
to some of the most popular destinations in Europe, Alcante and Tenerife. To
