Bournemouth International Airport

Bournemouth Airport is situated 6 miles to the North East of the attractive resort town in the South of England.

History of Bournemouth International Airport

Bournemouth airport began life known as Hurn airport, where the British Aircraft Corporation began its operations. As is common amongst UK Airports the local council take over and run it as a regional airport. In the 80's Bournemouth International Airport expansion continued with the housing of Charter airlines. By 1993 the airport had a regular flow of traffic and by 2001 another runway began constuction. British Airways then began using Bournemouth International Airport as an international hub.

As mentioned above in 2005 the airport announced flights from Bournemouth Airport with Thomsonfly offering a wide range of flights to top European destinations.

Alternative Airports or Routes

Bournemouth International Airports main rival is Southampton Airport (35 miles; mainly motorway), which is part of the BAA group. This makes it less competitive in terms of landing charges, and so far unable to offer much in the way of budget flights. The range of destinations from Southampton Airport is greater, and Bournemouth is also reasonably well connected by road and rail to Heathrow and Gatwick. Another alternative might be to drive to Bristol Internationl Airport (75 miles; mainly A road) to take advantage of the cheap flights on offer.

Midland Airports are a viable choice and with a nice range of options. Birmingham International airport has a large range of flights and Coventry airport offer budget flights with Thomsonfly
