London City Airport

London City Airport

London City airport flights can be booked with British Airways and KLM. To find the cheapest flights we recommend checking all the airlines listed. The London City book flights page has booking banners to make the booking process even faster.

London City airport is the only London airport situated in the middle of the city. Situated only a few miles from the Westminster and the City the airport supports flights throughout the UK and mainland Europe, mainly to other major financial hubs.

The mainstay of the airport are business flights across Europe. Due to its prime location in central London, London City Airport can even compete with Heathrow and Gatwick, the two main airports of London. To help their flights London City recently announced that they are increasing the number of flights to top business destinations in Europe.

KLM who already offer a daily flight to Rotterdam, have recently increased the number of flights to Amsterdam to 8 per day.

Latest News

In a press release from London City Airport, they proudly announced they had been voted ' Best UK airport' by the readers of the consumer travel publication 'Wanderlust'. This caps off a very successful time for London City airport. 2005 saw a massive 20% increase in passengers travelling to and from Docklands airport. This meant over 2 million passengers travelled through the airport in 2005.

After the recent opening of Docklands light Railway (DLR) Extension, travellers can now travel to Canary Wharf in under 15 minutes. With the Olympics visiting London in 2012 London City Airport seems perfectly located to deal with the influx of people travelling to the games. With a superb location, only 2 miles from the mains games venues Docklands airport seems destined to reach around 3.5 million passengers by 2010, even before the games begin.

Alternative Airports

London has the honour of being the city served with more international airports than any other. Due to London City's excellent location (central London) travelling to any other London airport requires moving out of the central area. The nearest London airports to the centre are Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead and Luton.

London Heathrow is the biggest UK Airport and offer a huge range of flights, London Gatwick follows closely behind and Stanstead is trying to catch up with both of them and Luton is barely in London.

About the Airport

Travel - As you might imagine travelling to and from the airport isn't really an issue considering its position. There are special shuttle bus routes directly from the terminal to either Canary Wharf or Canning Town.

Or you can simply jump in a cab and be in you meeting in central london in no time. With the recent introduction of London's Congestion charge an airport situated in the middle of london is ideal. (for more information about this try Transport For London)

Docklands light Railway announced that they are going to build an extension to London City airport. Designed to provide a direct rail connection from London City airport to the City and Canary Wharf the extension is due to be completed by 2005.

Future Expansion - Sadly due to the excellent location of the airport, expansion and a huge increase in passenger flights will be unlikely. London City airport seem to be aim their service toward the business traveller with flights to and from the main European business centres.
