London Stansted Airport

Stansted Airport flights can be booked with Air France, British Airways, and Thomson Flights. Airport Maps recommend checking all the airlines to find the cheapest flights.

Out in the middle of Essex Stansted is probably the hardest of the London airports for most people to get to. However, it is probably well worth the effort, for two major reasons.

No. 1 being a that Stansted is the hub for numerous discounted flight routes, been served by Ryanair, Buzz, and go. EasyJet have also mentioned the possibility of relocating there.

One of the the other positive advantages of Stansted, which easyJet had picked up on, is that once you get there, the airport is not only extremely easy to use, but is also one of the finest pieces of modern transport architecture in Europe.

Alternatives to London Stansted

For fans of the budget airlines, Stansted remains king. However, easyJet , operating out of both Luton and London Gatwick, offer very strong competition with the other three. Although Stansted, with rail connections at Liverpool Street, is very convenient for the City, the executive who is pressed for time is likely to consider using London City Airport. This does still offer some low-cost fares, especially at weekends, from airlines such as Flybe. For people living in towns such as Milton Keynes, and Northampton, the new budget operators using Birmingham and East Midlands may be just as attractive as those at Stansted.

Cheap flights from London Stansted

With Ryanair, go, and the Buzz using Stansted as their base, you are literally spoilt for choice, with routes available to just about every major European city, and also a number of minor ones.

If you are looking for a weekend of high culture and low cost beer drinking in Prague, then as lo check out offers from Czech Airlines, who also operate from Stansted. There are also a range of Mediterranean destinations available from the Charter operators.

Development plans at Stansted

Stansted is in the process of a £200 million infrastructure improvement programme, and is the obvious choice for further expansion to meet the needs of travellers wishing to fly to and from the London area. The major weakness at Stansted is the relatively slow so-called "Stansted Express" train, which takes the best part of an hour to reach Liverpool Street. You are then still a fair distance from the major population and hotel areas of London. If Stansted is going to expand up to the sort of levels mentioned in recent government documents, they would be essential to build a separate direct high-speed rail shuttle running non-stop to Stratford, with Canary Wharf and Liverpool Street being one additional stop in either direction.

Transport to Stansted

The Stansted Sky Train takes 45-50 minutes, and runs every half-an-hour from Liverpool Street station. It also stops at Tottenham Hale, for easy connections with the Victoria underground line. A variety of bus services are available, not just a central London, but to other airports such as Luton and Heathrow, and to major towns within the South East region.

Stansted is easily accessible by road to using the M11, which is around 30 minutes' drive from its junction with the M25. Allow or at least an hour to reach Stansted from central London.

Terminal facilities

The main terminal building, designed by prominent architect Norman Foster, is a prime example off 1980s high-tech Architecture, and has won numerous design awards. For those interested in architecture, it is worth flying from Stansted just to appreciate this modernist masterpiece. The editors of the site believe that Stansted is by far and away the most pleasant airport, not only in the UK, but also in the whole of Europe.

Travellers' tips

· Beware of pickpockets so in the airport rail station also one person we know off had his mobile phone stolen was buying a ticket for express train. · The Stansted Sky Train at £13.40 each way, can burn a hole in a wallet.
